Many women go undiagnosed with ADHD until adulthood, often misattributing their struggles to personal failings. A recent systematic review highlights the profound impact of late diagnosis, including low self-esteem, social difficulties, and emotional distress. Importantly, receiving a diagnosis often leads to a transformative sense of relief, self-understanding, and the ability to seek appropriate support. This research underscores the need for greater awareness of how ADHD presents differently in women—and why gender-informed diagnostic criteria and clinical education are critical.
